Mixing and matching

So I had a craving for a White Russian after work today. Seemed like the thing to do for some reason. Unfortunately, didn't have any Kahlua on hand, and didn't feel like going out to find some. Created a bit of a dilemma, till I noticed my bottle of maple syrup. Not quite the same, but still somewhat tasty. Tastier than with the blackcurrant jam I tried the first time that's for sure. Have some apricot jam as well, might give that a shot too.

Also, I've changed the settings so you no longer need to be registered to post a comment. Not sure if that's the actual reason people aren't posting comments, but it's changed anyway.

Stupid Rule of Threes

So after struggling to find work for the first 5 weeks I've been in NZ, I've gotten three "offers" over the past three days. One is general construction at minimum wage ($10.50) in Auckland, one is contract labour for vineyards (from $12-$18/hr depending on the contract) on Waiheke island (1/2 hour ferry from Auckland), and a temp office job which I received after accepting the position at the vineyard. Stupid life is mocking and teasing me again.

OMFG an update!

Yes yes, hell's getting a bit chilly. But I decided to be a bit less lazy and post an update with pictures! I went to the Bay of Islands a few week ago courtesy of my friend Lina, who won two bus passes and was nice enough to give me one. Absolutely fantastic time. Weather was perfect, views were spectacular, and I was also put in a room with 7 hot girls. All of which were under 20, so I felt a bit like a dirty old man at times, especially when they would come out of the shower just wearing towels. I did have to carry the 18yr old home from the bar twice though :P

Also went sailing for the first time which was absolutely fantastic. Lina's done plenty of sailing back home in Norway, and was looking to rent a boat. After comparing the costs for taking a cruise and renting, it was cheaper to rent and we'd get to see more, so we booked one for two days. which let us get onto some islands and explore a little. FYI, climbing in flip-flops is not a good idea, neither is rowing out of a lagoon with the wind and waves against you.

More recently, I went to a little convention called the Armageddon Expo where I let my inner geek come out and play. There were video game booths complete with scantily clad "booth babes", comic books, CCGs, toys, amateur wrestling, and minor celebrities! $30 for an autograph and $25 for an 8x10, which seems sorta pricey considering that of the 8 celebrities that were there today, I only recognized 4 of them, and only two of them had semi leading roles: Mira Furlan of B5 and Lost, and Summer Glau from Firefly/Serenity. There was a huge queue for autographs, and it seemed like everyone was there for Summer, which made me feel a little bad for the other actors, but only a little. I did manage to get a picture with Summer anyway, and found a way to chat her up a little as well. She's much prettier in person, and much nicer than I expected. If I'd had a bit more courage, I might have even offered to show her and her mom around Auckland, or at least taken them out for coffee. But I'm a wimp and it was a "dry" event so I settled for my free picture. I also got a picture with Clare Kramer from Buffy, but have no idea what character she played, but I'm sure it was a villain. Anyway, the pictures (yes my eyes are half shut in the second picture, but I'd have felt guilty getting it re-taken):
